“But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine…In all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works, in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.”
SOUND: The meaning in the Greek is simply to have healthy doctrine, true doctrine, and whole doctrine. This was Paul’s desire for Timothy, this was Paul’s desire here for Titus, it is Paul’s desire for the church, but most importantly, as Scripture is given by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, it is God’s desire for the body of Christ.
Doctrine then, should be wholesome, well rounded and true! As stated here in our text, our doctrine should always show incorruptibility, there is never a margin for error and we should always strive to get it right.
“For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”
- Solid food (strong meat) – stiff, that is, solid, stable: – steadfast, strong, sure. nourishment (literally or figuratively); by implication rations (wages): – food, meat.
This is going to be an ongoing study of false doctrines and false teachings based solely on Scriptures being taken out of context and entire teachings and doctrines being built upon them. NOTE: These false teachings are based and taught in many denominational and non-denominational churches today, from charismatic to fundamental Baptist so expect your toes to be stepped on and at times stomped on, ours certainly were when we started this journey. We limped around for quite a while. I say that because of the many, many verses that we knew and can recite by heart because we had heard them so many times over the years. We could regurgitate by heart what the pastor said it meant and yet when we actually stop and look at the verse in its context of scriptures, we find that it doesn’t mean what we believed or have been taught it means. That’s because it has been changed and altered into another meaning altogether. Pretty sobering thought isn’t it. If you choose to continue, be prepared to be offended, get angry, and not like us so much at times, we ran the gauntlet of all these emotions too. It is at times beyond frustrating when you realize that for years you were taught wrong things and then you realize that much of the blame lays at your feet also because you never fact checked what was coming from the pulpit. All we ask is that you go check the scriptures for yourself. God bless.
- We will list the verses that are mutilated and cherry picked
- Present the false teaching of them
- Give the scriptures in context, the correct meaning.
- Present the dangers, pit falls of being deceived and how we are spiritually crippled and become ignorant of the Word.
- We welcome your input and comments, please note that we by no means think we have it “all together” or that we have arrived.
Next week we will present our first selected verse and begin our study. If you have any verses that come to mind, feel free to offer them for study.
