Focus

Just my thoughts on the “weekly prophesy updates” that have developed out of several ministries over the past several years. I did listen to one, that was local, for a while but after a time it became just another news feed, a recap of all that is going on in the world for the week. Let me clarify that I’m not saying they are all like this as I have only listened to a few. Very little scripture on prophesy ever, a verse here or there but mostly speculation and opinion. I don’t think that we can correctly discern or understand prophesy in scripture by watching what is going on in the world. Yes, it is literally prophesy unfolding but to focus on the events rather than actual Biblical prophesies of the scriptures tilts the focus off of its foundational truth doesn’t it?  And once the events, rather than scripture becomes the focus  there is no foundation to stand on.

Some of these ministries started out as “discernment” ministries that were addressing the deceptions and false teachings within the church. Warning other believers of the lies and deceptions that have plagued the church and now believing the lie is the new normal rather than the exception. This too is prophesy unfolding before our eyes, scripture is clear on the state and condition of the churches and the false teachers within and we are there today.

So, my question is, while I see some value in looking at the condition/events of the world and the affairs taking place in it, shouldn’t the focus be more on what is happening within our own rank and file? Several scriptures come to mind.

2 Timothy 2:4 No man that warreth entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

1 Corinthians 5:12-13 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? Don’t you judge them that are with in? (speaking of the church) But them that are without God judges. Therefore, put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

Really, it’s no surprise to look at what all is taking place in the world and know that time if short. There are some days that I feel almost like I’ve literally entered the twilight zone {and that would be just going to work} and it’s a small town, farm country and yet people seem vicious and cruel, so completely self-absorbed that they have no constraints or boundaries. Again, several scriptures come to mind.

Matt. 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

Iniquity shall abound (Strong’s)-  illegality, that is violation of law, wickedness, unrighteousness: Abound- to increase, multiply from G4128 a fulness, that is a large number, throng, populace.

Is it any wonder that we feel like we are surrounded by crazies?  As iniquity grows to affect the populace, and it is today, apathy increases and even the simplest of emotions and care for one another is no longer pragmatic.  Normalcy is turn inside out and vice, injustice, immorality, and even crime becomes more heinous, all of which replicates the norm as the masses become more and more desensitized.   It must be noted however that although we see all this playing out in society what Jesus addressed here in Matthew 24:12 was directly to His disciples and their spiritual descendants.  In the last days the church will be in step with the world.

The church more and more works to discredit the Doctrine of Christ even denying the Lord as Peter states in his second epistle, “But there were false prophets among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction, and many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.” The “many” mentioned here again describes the large part of the church populous as perversion of the truth will be altogether common.

But where should we as believers in Christ focus and stand? There are so many disturbing things that we encounter on a daily basis now, when these things use to be few and far between. Many times, they seem to almost consume us as we try to “make sense” of them. We try to put them into perspective, when there is none to be found, other than what scripture says about them, and suddenly we have spent hours, days, sometimes weeks trying to work out and understand what or why people do, say, behave or react the way they do and it’s societal/world wide.

Mark 13:29 So you in like manner, when you shall see these things come to pass, know that it is near, even at the doors.

“see these things”(Strongs)= to see or to know; be aware, consider, have knowledge of, understand, perceive

Matt. 24:6 And you shall hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but he end is not yet.

You shall hear (Strong’s)= hear, be reported, understand.

See that you are not troubled = SEE, to stare by implication to discern clearly; Troubled= clamor to frighten

We are to see but not be troubled, easier said than done but how much time and energy should we really be putting into seeing these things take place? All we have to do is turn on the news and we see it daily. Even the local news is disturbing, frightening and troubling, is it necessary to create weekly updates of it and call it prophesy? Perhaps we should be looking more at what Christ warns about and mentions fours times in chapter 24, which is not being deceived?

Matt. 24:4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

Matt. 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

Matt. 24:24-25 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible they shall deceive the very elect. Behold I have told you before.

The seven letters in Revelation, isn’t written to or about the world, they are written to, about and for the churches!!! So our focus needs to be in the scripture, for our strength, our growth and understanding and to be able to stand and endure. Not being deceived by those within and not becoming so consumed with the things without.

  1. Agreed Treena and thank you for sharing this, seems like some have morphed from warning of false teaching/teachers to giving the weekly news recap. You are so right, we do need to be careful and watchful, thank you. God Bless. Loved your article on Derek Prince!

  2. The article did qualify that perhaps not ALL “weekly prophetic updates” were as described in the article. The same can and should be said for “discernment”-type websites. Again, it is discernment and study from us all that needs to be used in identifying what and who’s teaching lines up with scripture. God bless

  3. I agree Mike.. I have recently listened to Jacob Prasch and John Haller recewntly and they seem obsessed with politics. They seem to have what I refer to as “Israelitis”.. I know that Israel is critical in bible prophecy, but we do need to be careful. Won’t the Antichrist be pro-Israel at the beginning? Prasch and others seem to idolise Donald Trump who is certainly NOT a Christian. I began to write something along the same lines, but I have put in on hold for the moment. God bless you and Pat.

  4. I beg to differ, or at least qualify. The ministries I attend to on a fairly regular basis focus on prophetic Scripture and encourage believers to hold on tightly to Christ’s “word of patience”, and to ready themselves and others for the Lord’s coming for His own. There are far too many sweeping generalizations that overlook the real deal–hence my distaste for “discernment”-type websites, etc. I absolutely agree that we are in those days predicted by our Lord, and that the lawlessness we see around the world rivals that of Genesis. It’s going to get much worse as the Church leaves, and the world barrels through the guardrails of the slightest godliness, off the cliff and into the abyss of Daniel’s 70th Week. Let us, as Paul, Peter and John–in their letters–shine a bright light on the “more substantial word of prophecy” and “watch and pray” as our Lord commands in Mt. 24, Mk. 13, and Luke 21. “What I say to you, I say to ALL: WATCH!”–Mk. 13:37

  5. My friends, I have been seeing these same things and in increase. Those who once loved or claimed to love no longer do. Discernment sites seem to have more concern of the chatter and numbers than for truth, and prophecy watch programs are as you said, nothing more than the news. Love of self has increased so much that we can no longer find the trust we once shared with others, all things are called in suspicion and many have turned to conspiracy theories in place of the scriptures. Some days it takes all I have just to hang on in silent screams, and in prayer that people get shaken from their captive minds before it is too late.
