They Walk Among Us: Bringing in Damnable Heresies

2Pe 2:1  But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

2Pe 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. (read the entire chapter here

Many of us are aware and very familiar with the above scriptures that warns and specifically identifies the false prophets/teachers that are in the church both and today. These verses are critical to warning the body of Christ of false teachers and invaluable in that they give such detailed description of them.

However, it seems that many times these verses end up being the proverbial dead horse that is beaten over and over again. While we acknowledge the importance of them many times we will scan quickly through these scriptures without much thought or thinking we know them well enough. Certainly, as most of us have learned in our walk, the more we revisit scripture. more is often revealed on a topic. While the main subject of these verses is certainly identifying false teachers, what does the verses say about “you”, us, those who have escaped deception? It’ s interesting to note that 2 Peter and Jude give almost a mirror image of false teachers identity and traits but there are some differences in the you/us.

Coming out of false teaching is extremely difficult and many times traumatic. Not only is there an internal spiritual struggle going on inside of us but there are always the external triggers and often spiritual abuse that go along with leaving a false teaching, teachers, pastors, church etc. The leadership and those who remain that in the group will condemn and often curse you to hell for leaving and speaking out. Both 2 Peter 2 and Jude cover, in specific detail, the actions, methods, traits, behaviors and intent of these false teachers. It is so specific that if one does the work/test it’s relatively easy to spot them. Their names and ministries almost jump off the pages at you as you read these verses. Let’s not forget the “many” that follow them, as they take on the persona of these false teachers and all their ill begotten attributes.

Looking at 2 Peter 2 and Jude both are speaking to the body of Christ, the “you,” those who know and understand having escaped the false teachings. Peter speaks to what we are to these false teachers, and Jude speaks of what we must bear and what we must do and how to stand and fight against the deception.

2Pe 2:3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

Be aware that they are in the business of merchandising the body of Christ. They are in it for gain period. It is also noteworthy to look at the definition of the word “merchandise” here in this verse. It means, “to trade, to travel for business, to traffic, to deal in, to use a person or a thing for gain.” (3)

The body of Christ is nothing more than business and gain for them. To buy and sell, mostly to sell. So many books, training manuals, DVD’s, etc. are sold and peddled at countless spring, summer and fall conferences, always promising new or latest revelation, prophesy updates or some topic that is freshly revealed to them. This will be covered in more detail in another article titled “The Church, The Parachurch and Prophesy Updates”

2Pe 2:19  While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

2Pe 2:20  For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

Looking at the word overcome in these two verses is one key to understanding and identifying them and clearly making a distinction between the us and them.

overcome: hayt-tah’-o From the same as G2276; to make worse, that is, vanquish (literally or figuratively); by implication to rate lower: – be inferior, overcome. (1)

Thayer defines it as: 1b) to overcome, worsted, to be conquered by one, forced to yield to one

Vanquish literally means, to overcome in battle: subdue completely, to gain mastery over an emotion, passion or temptation. In these verses it is the flesh that has conquered. (2)

The flesh has now gained mastery over the man. Here we must understand that these false teachers have been completely defeated and subdued by their flesh. They have lost the conflict and the contest, they are disqualified, cursed children. They no longer fight or struggle against the lusts of the flesh but embrace it and excuse it.

As believers we all struggle with the flesh and so we are also more compassionate, understanding and forgiving of others in the body of Christ that struggle also. Make no mistake these false teachers count on this fact; they take advantage of this grace while feeding themselves. Their service is to themselves only.

Jud 1:12  These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;

Below are a few examples/excuses of those overcome and mastered by their flesh.

John Haller (Fellowship Bible Church/weekly prophesy update) : “Now I get emails every now and then…John you’re overweight, you could lose some weight, like I don’t know that? Like every time I look in the mirror. Now I work two jobs where I sit on my rear end, so, let’s everybody exercise a little bit of grace. I see these things and I like the way, Bill Buckley, William F. Buckley responded was, he used to smoke cigars and people said Bill you shouldn’t smoke cigars, you’ll die of cancer. And his response was, if I don’t die of cancer what am I going to die of?”   4:20 minute mark (4)

Pastor Paula White: Spiritual advisor to the President: former pastor  of Church Without Walls: “Paula and husband Jonathan Cain promote porn in marriages. In the following clip Jonathan states that (Christian) women should watch porn with their husbands fi that is what he likes. Paula then tried to laugh it off and act like he was joking. But it was no joke. In the house of God (supposedly (with children in the sanctuary. Jon and Paula have nor respect for God, the Church, children or even their own selves.” “Please watch this short clip. (5)

Jacob Prasch Moriel Ministries/parachurch: Quote “that was the Jack Daniels teaching” (1:17 minute mark).  “admittedly I was scared, I could only say two things. Lord Jesus and Jack Daniels. (2:18 minute mark) (6)

Notice that in each of these quotes there is humor, deflection, storytelling, even requests for grace to be given and quotes from other famous people but never from the scriptures.

1Co 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

2 Peter tells us that false teachers will be the norm not the exception and many will follow them. That’s the majority.  We are promised that God will not spare the, the ungodly, and that the body of Christ, the godly, will be delivered. Those of us that have come out of false teachings know full well how God has moved in us to awaken us to the deception and delivered us out.

Jud 1:3-4  Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. (read the entire book here

Our ability to discern and identify false teachers must be developed and rooted in the Word. In Jude we see that we are exhorted to “earnestly contend for the faith”

CONTEND: 1864 epagōnízomai (from 1909 /epí, “focused on” and 73 /agṓn, “a contest, competition”) – properly, to contend (literally, “struggle upon, appropriately”), i.e. with skill and commitment in opposing whatever is not of faith (God’s persuasion).

In looking at the definition of contend we see something familiar to us as believers i.e. the struggle to win, the fight to overcome. It’s familiar because this is also what we do within our flesh in trying to subdue and bring it into obedience. Paul speaks of running the race and having mastery over flesh and mind.

2Ti 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

The emphasis on contending for the faith  points directly to those certain ungodly men that have crept in unawares, in 2 Peter it says they privily bring in damnable heresies. The definitions of these words are slightly different in the Strong’s both are from the same root word.

PRIVILY: par-ice-ag’-o From G3844 and G1521; to lead in aside, that is, introduce surreptitiously: – privily bring in.

Crept in unawares: par-ice-doo’-no From G3844 and a compound of G1519 and G1416; to settle in alongside, that is, lodge stealthily: – creep in unawares.

Anytime you have someone come along side of you there is a sense of comradery  and even safety. More often than not our defenses are down, we become easy prey. Humor and storytelling are very disarming.

Jud 1:5  I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.

Jud 1:17-18  But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;   How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.   These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.

Finally in Jude we see that we are to do all we can, contending for the faith,  to warn and help others that have fallen prey to these false teachers and take care that we ourselves are not hoodwinked and fall into deception again. Stand on the Word of God and always remember they walk among us.

Jud 1:21-23  Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.  And of some have compassion, making a difference:  And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

  1. Numerology, Bible Codes, Midrash, Overemphasis on Prophecy, KJV Onlyism, Jewish Roots, Black Hebrew Israelism, Conspiracy Theory, Gnosticism. These are things people end up getting into when they are unchurched, imbalanced and in darkness. Hence you see many of them distorting Scripture the way Peter warned.
All the gurus of each type of belief are the equivalent of quack snake oil salesmen aping real doctors handing out quack medicine promising to do one thing but really doing either nothing or something harmful.
Pope Brock wrote a good book called ‘Charlatan’ about infamous Depression era radio quack John Brinkley. His central schtick was convincing men a cure of impotence was sewing goat testicles inside their own. He made a fortune and caused untold damage and death. Quack gurus who roll out the Midrash or Overemphasis on Prophecy or KJV-worship are ushering people into their tent to give them something that’s largely useless and has the opposite effect to bringing the peace the Holy Spirit imparts to His children, and you also see the lack of the other fruits of the Spirit in their lives. They don’t have answers for their lack, so, like their chosen topic they just go off on spiel about how important Midrash/Prophecy/Black Hebrew Israelism/Numerology/etc is as a defence. Important to them, maybe. Important to God? No.

  2. It was actually spread around in the public by a Christian person that people were getting the coronavirus from the vaccine. Wait there is no vaccine. Yes, this is a weird time. Put no time for Alice and chase rabbits down the hole. We know already whats forming so why waste time on secular websites instead of scripture? Because Christians are lazy and would rather study conspiracy theories instead of scripture. The website hits show this to be absolutely true.

    Jeremiah 5:31The prophets prophesy falsely,
    And the priests rule on their own authority;
And My people love it so!
But what will you do at the end of it?

  3. Psa 127:1  A Song of degrees for Solomon. Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

  4. When it comes to the deception, fear-mongering, and the guesswork in prophecy updates, look no further than the comments section of Servus Christi’s and Prasch’s April 3rd joint effort on the First Seal of Revelation:

There are hundreds of conspiratorial comments, with one believing Coronavirus was planned, another frantically trying to tell everyone it was panned, and another refusing to take any vaccine for it believing it is part of the Mark of the Beast.
Followers of Beavis Christi and Butthead Prasch are dangerous to society. They are so far from following the Bible, they’ve all fled down the path of sci-fi and myth all in an effort to see the future, and look how ridiculous it has made them, and potentially dangerous to others.
Yes the charismaniacs of Toronto onwards have made a fool of Christianity, but the new fools at work are the conspiratorially-minded ones. Utterly shameful.

  5. 2 Timothy 4 speaks of people turning aside to “fables” (mýthos).

3454 mýthos – a myth; a false account, yet posing to be the truth; a fabrication (fable) which subverts (replaces) what is actually true.

Theories about the end times that many prophecy “experts” come out with are simply fanciful tales which—as they cannot know the truth—can be nothing but educated/uneducated guesswork which means they are always automatically presenting subversions of the truth, many of which lead listeners deep into fool conspiracy theories that commonly leave them in fear and distrust.
The reader is to understand Jesus’s end times signs when they are happening, not guessing when they will happen in the future and crying wolf week in week out in a lame effort to keep hold of prophecy addicts in the non-church setting of the internet.

  6. Well said powerplaypause. It’s a breeding ground for fear, anxiety and stress, rather than what it should be…..looking up to Jesus/the Word the author and finisher of our faith, due to the fact they don’t put Jesus into their updates, only honorable mention, if that.

  7. Very little difference between the accuracy rate of the prophecy updates based on world news and horoscopes. Very little difference between the motivation behind the Bible prophecy followers and the readers of horoscopes: they all want to know the future. All of the “experts” have a Get Out of Jail card by associating any vague prophetic connection to the “birth pangs”. Sad how people are so easily captivated by prophecy updates and horoscopes. It has given birth to many fool conspiracy theories and many a fear-mongering heart bent on distrusting rulers to the detriment of the church.

  8. Thanks for sharing this Tim. This sheds light on the many problems and errors that occur within these so called “prophesy” updates that become weekly news and politics of the world. What needs to be shared more than anything else is the Word of God. Folks need to hear it and read it, particularly in times like these. We all need it. So that we may be strengthened, assured and actually grow in God’s Word. Any sermon, update or teaching that doesn’t include the Word of God, brings nothing to the believer. It’s empty and useless without the Word of God.
That’s doesn’t mean throw in one or two verses and it’s called scriptural. That’s what has been happening for several decades now, within many churches. One or two verses mentioned and the rest is filler, it’s like empty calories with little or no nutritional value. The same applies to these updates, they simply are not prophesy or prophetic. Many of these weekly updates come from ministries that have been known as, or started out as, “discernment” and or “watchmen” churches/ministries. If those who have listened to them then and are still listening today, would apply the known scriptural guidelines, that they themselves have taught in exposing other false ministries; they would fall short themselves in producing any fruit.
Hebrews 4 just for starters. Praying for the author of this email.

  9. An email from a fan of Moriel and Praschs which shows even Jacobs faithful followers are starting to take notice. There is also a big drop in views as well as Praschs new teaching. Thank you Amos.
    Here is the emailHey Jacob,
Thanks for all your sermons and work that I have enjoyed for years now
and, more importantly, been edified by.
I subscribe to your This Week In Prophesy, as it’s wonderful to get any
information that relates, even tangentially, to the return of the Lord
Jesus. I say “even tangentially”, because even the slightest inkling
that his return is accelerating is very exciting for us isn’t it.
What I have noticed, however, is that the weekly messages have become
almost entirely political, and at least on the surface level they seem
secular now. I expect that it must be very difficult to try and place
all these global events (specifically) into the Biblical framework for
the end times. I can totally understand that. I also understand that
all sorts of events can be relevant, so that you have such a lot of
    ground to cover.
But what I feel has been lost, is the reference to scripture and/or
prophesy. Maybe you think that you’ve already covered the relevant
scriptures, and are reluctant to become a ‘broken record’ by referring
to the same scriptures too often? But, believe me, I’d rather hear the
same scriptures being drummed into me than just the secular politics!
I’m also sure that, as well as others being like-minded, there will be
new Christians or new listeners who haven’ t heard it all before.
You’re too valuable in the church body to become a political talking
head 🙂 I understand that politics can become very emotionally
charged, and get one going, and it’s certainly an ‘itching ears’ topic
to beware of, so I hope that you will spurn it whenever it starts to
take centre stage/emphasis, which is what I perceive it to have become
(though only by accident, like the metaphorical frog being in the slowly
    heated water!)
From my perspective, I’ve found myself switching off the video
increasingly quicker for each new post, without realising really, and
now I find myself not watching after the intro and just seeing the face
of my faithful brother! i.e. currently my only edification is seeing
that you’re still alive and here with us rather than with the Lord yet
🙂 and that is a blessing (for us)!
Love you loads. I hope and pray that your ailments are easing. It’s
always great to hear from you online!
    End email
    Nuff Said!

  10. Below is yesterday’s sermon from the pastor from Fellowship Bible Chapel. Interestingly he uses the same Joe Rogan video that was in our comments above concerning the exponential life threatening issues of the virus on the obese in this country. Also interestingly, but not surprisingly, although he plays that part of the video on obesity, in his sermon, he steers clear of any mention of it in his remaining sermon. No suggestion to eat healthy and stay away from unhealthy foods etc. Granted one cannot correct obesity overnight but eat healthy foods and healthy amounts is certainly a start and set the course. Obesity is epidemic in this country and it also appears an easy target for the virus.

5:10 minute mark “James says that we will get abundant wisdom from God as we kneel and say helps us through this; help us to do the right thing. Help us to be wise. The leadership here at the church is attempting to stay together in one accord and I promise you, we are going to do our absolute best not to react to fear in any of this. But we want to be wise. We want to be shepherds to those who are among us who are aged or have some of these situations that put them at high risk. I appreciate Dave for sharing some research about what we really need to be concerned with in terms of what some of our people are suffering with and how they are more vulnerable to this and we don’t want to give it to them, if we can help it.”

Note: Rather than bring to light the subject of obesity and all of it’s underlying issues with health that will compromise and make vulnerable the obese in the 40 and over crowd, he stays away from the topic altogether and calls it “some of what our people are suffering with”……

    Joe Rogan video 4:30 mark:

“Now the challenge that we, is that’s the Chinese data. There are a series of risk factors that we worry about, that if they over lay on this disease are going to cause bad outcomes. And we happen to be at ground zero for one of the major ones in this country, that’s obesity. We know that obesity is just like smoking in terms of its ability to cause severe life-threatening disease and 45% of our population today over the age of 45 are obese or severely obese, men and women. So, one of the concerns we have is that we are going to see more, what I would call, very serious and life-threatening cases occur in our country because of a different set of risk factors than we saw in China.”

9:07 mark: “ People in public places are getting infected and the way you need to address that is, unfortunately, if you’re older over 55 you have underlying health problems, unfortunately a lot of Americans do, we have obesity. Then right now you don’t want to be in large public spaces.”

  11. Just watched portions of Hallers newest Convergence videos. Haller mentions a lot about how this matches up with scripture but then does not mention what scripture it matches up with.
The actual preaching at this church gets a lot fewer views than Hallers News reports.
Shows the state of Christians. And if the current coronavirus shows how we react to a crisis
we are all in big trouble. The end credit roll shows from Jerusalem to Judea and Samaria and to the Ends of the Earth. Wow, most people know it’s from Columbus. And I get that they are saying they are worldwide but notice how they say from Jerusalem at the start which really suggest a large audience from there.
    What utter ego

  12. Focus on prophecy is a problem that tells you someone isn’t happy with God’s Word—they want God’s Word PLUS secular news and entertainment.
Prasch’s ministry is built on God’s Word PLUS Midrash.
Both Midrash and prophecy teachers will focus on the necessity of knowing the other things to help understand the Bible. For Prasch is gives him guru status. For Haller it enables him to be the lawyer in presenting his views publicly without the stress of having a rival then cross examine the evidence/views/witnesses and reveal him to be a complete moron in front of the judge/jury.

  13. Correct on scripture. You can only proof text Gog vs Magog so many times. Prasch is notorious for that as well. When they do use scripture it is again just proof-texting things which could have also been used throughout history. 1948 when Israel became a nation was a prophetic update. Wars and rumours of wars and pestilence have been going on since Jesus rose to heaven.

  14. Haller probably doesn’t want to use Scripture because if he did he’d be repeating the same prophetic verses each and every week and using them as a front to work in the things he’d rather talk about: secular things.
Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
By avoiding the repetition of the prophetic verses he guards against viewers becoming aware that it’s largely tosh and a total facade used to entice fearful people to gain FBC viewing stats which the actual Bible teaching broadcasts don’t get. Haller gets 25,000-35,000 views for his “prophecy” updates, whilst the minister at FBC gets 500-1,000 for his actual Bible teaching.
What’s the difference between Rick Warren giving people who like jazz special tailored jazz music ‘worship’ sessions and Haller giving people who like the secular news special sessions of news clips? Both are sheer rubbish and are just trying to accommodate people who can’t actually be bothered with the Bible and reverence parts of being a “Christian”.

  15. One of the main issue with all three. White, Prasch and Haller, mentioned in the article, is that they do not and will not apply the scripture to their own personal lives, which scripture clearly identifies as one of the traits.

2 Peter 2:19 “They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity–for “people are slaves to whatever has mastered them”.

Of course there has been much more error exposed on all three examples in the article. The examples given in this article may seem trivial to some but indeed they are fruit to be tested, which is bad and just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. So what message are they teaching, if they don’t apply the scripture to their own lives, what are those that follow them going to do? John Haller has also said that he doesn’t use a lot of scripture in his weekly prophesy updates because he assumes that most that listen to him are familiar with the scriptures. The only thing is that he has no idea who his audience is once his prophesy updates are uploaded. It would be one thing for John to say that, if his reports were confined only to his church congregants. As believers we also know that the Word of God is living and active in discerning our hearts and changing us, so how does NOT using much scripture help or minister to the hearers, particularly when it comes to prophesy/end-times?

As far as gluttony goes for both Prasch and Haller, both admit they are; but one blames it on his oedema which is not true and the other simply says we all have to die of something. Both are saying they have no intentions of attempting to address this issue within themselves and so they are setting the example for those who follow them. Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die.

Interesting to note that I watched a video concerning the corona virus and the “expert” said that obese people are at higher risk equal to smokers for having serious outcomes dealing with the coronavirus.
Listen at the 4:30 mark here
    Or here
Wonder if this will be included in either one of their weekly prophesy updates?
NOTE: The videos used here are in no way meant to endorse these youtube channels just thought the material presented was interesting and certainly applies here. Seriously the expert states that 45% of Americans are obese that’s an epidemic within itself and the church has become a literal feeding ground for it. Look at the stats on the obesity in the churches today.
This is actually a pretty good message for a Baptist Pastor, very much worth a listen.

  16. I agree that they clearly think they are smarter than others. A large amount of Prasch’s sense of superiority has come from him calling out famous Christians and them not responding, giving him the fool sense that they are “running scared”, thus inflating his ego. In reality Phil Johnson said nobody of sound mind would consider it possible that Prasch could produce of respond to a reasoned argument:

If Prasch actually debated or interacted with evidence against him, his world would implode and his facade would collapse. I think he KNOWS this, which is why he deliberately just does his ad hominem, red herrings and smoke bombs, then runs away.

  17. I’ve been around these guys often. They eat a huge amount of junk food and candy. Plus John is really not a nice guy. Both Jacob and John are very aloof and really do think they are smarter than everyone else. They consider most others as intellectually superior to others. They are also misogynistic in my opinion toward women (behind the scenes). As you can tell by the communication that I had with John the way he felt free to speak to a woman who was forwarding a message to me that threatened me. Well, that didn’t work out good for John because Joe Schimmel’s own church showed John to be the hot-headed fool he is. Moriel really seems to draw the same stinky fruit. As far as John exposing me about false research “bring it on”. Plus with John using a very unstable person as his media person it just shows what a lack of good judgement Haller has. Turn off their sad stupid news reports and open your bibles. Jacob is just reading off a website. Haller does do a bit of research but it’s no difference then listening to the 700 Club

  18. So he has the abundant opportunity to literally pull his weight and overcome the negative consequences of a sit-down job, but chooses instead to…..sit down on a golf buggy. So there is gluttony AND laziness at the heart of Haller.

  19. Again I state publicly that I’m convinced Prasch was drunk at John Haller’s church Fellowship Bible Chapel in Spring 2019. His behaviour was erratic, his speech slurred, his wit slowed, his face flushed, his emotions varied wildly, his pauses were long, his demeanor belligerent (

With John Haller he lies by claiming his inactivity in his jobs makes him prone to gaining gargantuan girth, because many times I heard him wax lyrical about all his golfing (a golf round requires a couple of hours of hiking).

  20. There was so much that could have been said about each of them. They are all in the same pot along with the rest of the false teachers mentioned in these Scriptures. Greatly appreciate your comment as it will help others see and identify the attributes of deceivers.

  21. There are many interesting points in this post Mike and Pat.

I came out of charismania some years ago. Apparently I am the most hated woman in Leicester due to my stand against Trinity Life Church (AOG) and other local churches supporting the NAR.

Prasch blames his obesity on “lymphatic fluid” but this is yet another fib! Moriel South Africa:

“Like Bill Randles, Jacob Prasch battles with issues of health; specifically Lymphatic Oedema causing non dietary obesity. To function Jacob is reliant on certain meds, one of which has the side effect of oral dehydration affecting salvia secretion. He is not ‘foaming at the mouth’ but battling a disease. Such personal attacks only evade the factual and doctrinal issues.”

I have done some research into the subject of lymphatic oedema as the cause of non dietary obesity. In fact it is NOT the case that lymphatic oedema causes obesity. Obese people suffering from lymphatic oedema are actually advised to lose weight as it is an aggravating factor.

It appears that Prasch has a number of problems with his flesh (that we know of) ~
lying, gluttony and Jack Daniels!!! In addition, he also suffers from rank hypocrisy!!!
Jacob Prasch: The Sin of Gluttony!

    God bless
