If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams….

There are many believers, that absolutely refuse to accept the truth or evidence of error and abuse by a prominent leader that they cling to as God’s anointed. Many more will defend their teachings, saying that they correctly taught the Word of God and then excuse their exposed vile lifestyle, say “we all sin”. What needs to be remembered and kept in mind concerning deception; is that error is always placed alongside of truth. The catch phrase “eat the meat, spite out the bones” comes to mind.

Hi We need to also remember that there are no bones in leaven and all of what is presented by false teachers is poison. Sadly, the poison is often exposed first, within their personal lives, with corruption, abuse, rage, and vileness. Only then does their teaching becomes suspect. When what they teach should have always been tested and proven against the Word to see if it’s true. If it does not line up, we are to no longer listen to them and should warn others of them. We are not to cling to the teachings of someone like this, nor defend them. I have seen many believers fight and defend their beloved leader, but never bring scripture as a foundation for their defense. That is because there is no Scriptural foundation for them to stand on. Yet they blindly refuse to allow and apply the Scripture to set the standard and end up being deceived.
We are to discern these things and understand that these false teachers are in the business of merchandising the body of Christ and that they will present themselves as messengers of light but inwardly they are ravening wolves, feeding their own desires.

Deu 13:1  If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,

Deu 13:2  And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;

Deu 13:3  Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

Deu 13:4  Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.

Consider these verses in Deuteronomy, we are not to hearken to their words, even if what they say comes to pass (which is true) because their path leads away from God.

Jude 1:4….. turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jude speaks of them turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, which means:
“ unbridled lust, excess, licentiousness, lasciviousness, wantonness, outrageousness, shamelessness, insolence.”
What needs to be repeated here is that the lasciviousness is produced within their own personal lives, that they attempt to keep hidden. That is where we see the grace of God perverted, they will always present themselves to their audience/congregations/sheep as righteous. Jude goes on to describe them further by stating:

Jud 1:16 These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men’s persons in admiration because of advantage.

Jud 1:18  How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.

Jud 1:19  These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.

They murmur and complain; “one who discontentedly complains & complaining of one’s lot, querulous, discontented” (1)

Over and over, we see these leaders lie and deflect, when questioned or challenged on any front, whether their teachings or personal lifestyle and conduct. Do they become open and transparent and ready to answer all charges according to the Scriptures? Or willing to openly debate their teachings and humbly be corrected and repentant? The answer is no, we never see this.

Instead we hear them complain of how they are being persecuted for the sake of the gospel and all who are bringing accusations are of the devil. They continue to elevate themselves to almost sainthood status, as untouchable, the old worn-out phrase of touch not mine anointed may not be spoken but is literally acted out by their arrogance and defiance.

This is how we know who and what they are. We all have heard them play the victim of persecution from Satan. These excuses come from all who have been caught and exposed. We’ve heard it from the those who seek fame and notoriety such as Bill Hybles (3), John MacArthur (4), Ravi Zacharias (5), James McDonald (6), Benny Hinn (7) and to the much lesser knowns such as, Jack Hyles(8), Jack Schapp(9), Dusty Peterson (10), Jacob Prasch(11)and the list can go on and on. Error, false doctrines, abuse, and corruption do not follow denominational boundaries. It is rather born within the hearts of individual men.

Jude goes on to point out that their focus is on their own lusts and they appeal to and are driven by it, particularly desiring the popularity and status of men. They separate themselves, meaning they are “Arrogant setting up of themselves, as having greater sanctity and a wisdom and peculiar doctrine, distinct from others.”  those who by their wickedness separate themselves from the living fellowship of Christians; (12)

Our responsibility as believers is to obey and follow what the Word says concerning these men, which is to turn away from them have nothing to do with them or their doctrines and to warn others also.

Deu 13:3  Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

Pro 14:15  The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

Pro 14:16  A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.

  1. Sadly, some will continue to revisit these men’s teachings, knowing exactly what they are. I don’t know how they reconcile that with the Scriptures. There are sound teachers out there, although it may take some work to find them, it is much better than using someone who is known to teach error, again we must remember, leaven is throughout the whole with these men. The risk of falling into deception again is much greater when you continue to listen to or use their material. It is like knowing it’s poison and eating it anyway. I’ve seen many who have stated as much concerning John MacArthur’s errors, and a few others mentioned here. The warnings in Scripture are not vague nor optional, they are clear and distinct, all for our protection, growth, and benefit. To do otherwise places us in jeopardy and in disobedience.

  2. Excellent – and impeccable timing as somebody else is making a video saying the very same thing about one of the lesser known but particularly wicked examples you gave.
    They can’t fight against scripture.
They can try – but it is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword…
